We recently completed a striking LVT flooring installation for a home in Walkford, Christchurch, where the client wanted something with a little more character than a conventional wood or stone-effect floor. The choice was Harvey Maria Northmore Fired Terracotta LVT flooring tiles, bringing rich colour, pattern and a real vintage wow factor to the finished space.
As with any LVT installation, achieving the right finish started long before the first tile was laid. The existing floor required full preparation to create a smooth and stable surface for the new flooring. We carefully prepared the entire area before applying a latex smoothing screed, removing imperfections and creating the consistent base needed for a high-quality LVT installation.
This preparation is particularly important when working with patterned tiles. Unlike some flooring designs where small variations can be less noticeable, a geometric tile immediately draws the eye across the floor. Any imperfections underneath can affect the finished appearance, so getting the subfloor right is an essential part of producing the crisp, consistent result the client was looking for.
Once the floor preparation was complete, we supplied and installed Harvey Maria Northmore in the Fired Terracotta colourway. The design combines the practicality of modern luxury vinyl tile with an appearance inspired by traditional decorative flooring. Its warm terracotta tones and distinctive pattern give the room an aged, characterful feel without the need to source or maintain original vintage tiles.
The pattern was carefully planned during installation to ensure it flowed naturally across the room. With a floor this distinctive, the installation itself becomes an important part of the overall design. Accurate positioning and careful cutting around the perimeter allowed the pattern to remain the focal point while maintaining a neat, professionally finished edge throughout the space.
The finished floor completely changes the character of the room. Fired Terracotta introduces warmth and personality while the Northmore pattern provides exactly the vintage wow factor the client wanted. It is a great example of how flooring can become a genuine design feature rather than simply providing a practical surface beneath your feet.
