We recently completed this LVT flooring installation for a home in Lymington, using Brampton Chase Storm Grey to create a smart, contemporary finish with a bespoke border and contrasting black feature strip. The project also required significant floor preparation, with the new flooring needing to meet the height of the existing floors in the adjoining kitchen and hallway.
As always, achieving the right finish started with the subfloor. In this property there was a 14mm difference between the area being fitted and the existing flooring in the kitchen and hallway. Rather than leaving an awkward step or relying on transition profiles to compensate for the difference, we screeded the floor by 14mm to bring the levels together and create a smooth, consistent surface ready for the new LVT.
Getting these levels right makes a considerable difference to the finished installation. It allows the flooring to transition much more naturally between adjoining areas of the home while also providing the flat, stable base needed for LVT. Once the screed had cured and the floor was fully prepared, we could begin setting out the new flooring.
For the main floor, the client selected Brampton Chase in Storm Grey. The subtle grey tones provide a contemporary look without overpowering the room, giving the space a versatile foundation that works particularly well alongside different furniture, wall colours and finishes.
What really makes this installation stand out, however, is the detailing around the perimeter. Rather than simply running the flooring directly to the edges of the room, we created a full border around the installation and incorporated a 5mm black feature strip. The slim black line provides a sharp contrast against the Storm Grey flooring, framing the main floor and giving the entire installation a much more bespoke appearance.
Installing a feature border like this requires careful setting out before the main flooring is laid. The position of the border, feature strip and central flooring all need to work together, particularly around corners, doorways and changes in the shape of the room. Taking the extra time at this stage ensures the border remains consistent and the finished floor looks balanced throughout the space.
The completed installation has given the room a clean, sophisticated finish while the black feature strip adds just enough contrast to make the flooring a feature in its own right. Combined with the 14mm floor build-up, the result is not only visually striking but also flows neatly into the existing flooring in the kitchen and hallway.
