Case Study: Furlong Bliss Carpet Installation Over Underfloor Heating in New Milton

We recently completed a carpet installation for a home in New Milton where the property’s underfloor heating system meant the choice of materials and installation method needed a little extra consideration. The client wanted the warmth and comfort of a quality carpet without unnecessarily restricting the performance of the heating beneath it, so every part of the flooring system was selected with this in mind.

One of the first considerations was the carpet gripper. Rather than mechanically fixing the gripper into the floor, we used a fully bonded installation. This allowed us to securely position the gripper without the risk of fixings interfering with the underfloor heating system below. It is a small detail in the overall installation, but an important one when working with heated floors.

The choice of underlay was equally important. We supplied and installed 9mm Heatvent underlay, specifically chosen to allow heat to transfer through the flooring system while still providing the cushioning and comfort you expect beneath a quality carpet. Underfloor heating and carpet can work extremely well together, but the products used above the heating system need to be carefully considered. An unsuitable combination of thick carpet and underlay can restrict heat transfer, whereas the right specification helps maintain both comfort underfoot and effective heating performance.

For the finished floor, the client selected Furlong Bliss, a heavy domestic carpet designed to provide a luxurious feel while coping with the demands of everyday home life. Combined with the 9mm Heatvent underlay, it creates a soft and comfortable surface underfoot without compromising the reason the property has underfloor heating in the first place.

Once the bonded gripper and Heatvent underlay were in place, the new Furlong Bliss carpet was carefully fitted and finished throughout the room. Attention was given to maintaining the correct tension and producing neat edges and transitions, leaving the client with a professionally installed carpet that feels every bit as good as it looks.

The completed installation provides the best of both worlds: the softness and comfort of a heavy domestic carpet together with a flooring system designed to allow the warmth from the underfloor heating to pass through. It demonstrates why carpet selection is only one part of a successful installation. The gripper, underlay and fitting method beneath the carpet can be just as important, particularly in properties with underfloor heating.
